Digitour Experience is a translation app, but also a platform where audio, image and augmented reality files come to life. Download the files beforehand and the app will work perfectly offline. There are multiple languages to choose from. Plus you’ll share this app with many other tourism businesses. What that means is this app not only provides a service, but also advertising for your business. Finally, there is also the opportunity for this app to not only be free, but actually make you money.

What the Digitour experience app does?

Image Translation

Point your phone at a unique marker and a preloaded and translated image pops up on your screen. The language chosen in the app determines which image pops up on the screen. This is the best way to ensure your foreign guests are fully informed about what they are looking at and learning about.

Best time to use

  • When all your information boards are in English only
  • Where space is at a premium. Have all your information boards accessible via the app including English
  • Children treasure hunts – for example the kids need to find and scan the unique markers hidden all around in order to answer questions and receive a prize

Example

Download the Redwoods Treewalk files in Chinese, then point your camera at the below unique marker. Change the language and try again to see what image pops onto your screen.

Augmented Reality (AR)

Point you phone at a unique marker and an AR image comes to life. This is the perfect way to capture the attention of your guests and help tell your story. AR really is only limited to your imagination – if you’ve got an idea in your head it can be turned into an AR image.

Best time to use

  • Animals or any type of character can educate and entertain your customers
  • Show your audience historical people or buildings or even extinct or endangered animals. Anything that they would otherwise never have the opportunity to see or meet
  • Bring an exhibit to life. Tools, machines, inventions that have sat dormant or decommissioned for years can now be bought back to life through AR.
  • A point of difference by having your business cards come to life

Example

Download the Digitour files in English, then point your camera at the below unique marker

Audio Translation

Point your phone at a unique marker and an audio file plays. The language chosen in the app determines which audio file plays. This is the easiest way to explain to anyone (including English speaking guests) about your exhibits, animals, environment, culture etc.

Best time to use

  • Information boards are limited by the space available – audio files are not. One unique marker can provide audio files in multiple languages
  • Use voices specific to the story being told
  • Provide animal sounds – mating or territorial calls for example. Sounds that may otherwise only be heard at certain times of the day or year.
  • Provide sounds relative to the exhibit – machine sounds for example
  • Children treasure hunts – for example the kids need to find and scan the unique markers hidden all around in order to answer questions and receive a prize

Example

Download the Digitour files in English, then point your camera at the below unique marker

Audio Translation using Bluetooth Beacons

Keep your phone in your pocket and your headphones on and an audio file will automatically play when it gets within distance of specifically placed Bluetooth beacons. The language chosen in the app determines which audio file plays. This can be used anywhere and for many reasons.

Best time to use

  • On guided tours where your English speaking guides stop at designated areas
  • In an environment where you don’t want your guests using their phones. E.g. in a cave where you want no unnatural light
  • Give animals a voice – provide the illusion that they are calling out to your guests
  • Encourage your guests to go in a particular direction
  • Provide sounds effects to enhance the experience. E.g. walk through a historic village and bring it back to life
